Environmental Aspects, Compliance Obligations and Emergencies: How Do They Connect?

Image
A container leaks during unloading. Liquid spreads across the yard toward a stormwater drain. The immediate question is how to respond safely. But an environmental management system should help answer several questions before that happens: Did we identify the potential environmental impact? Do we know which requirements apply? Have we prepared people to respond? These questions connect three important EMS processes: environmental aspects determination, compliance obligations determination, and emergency preparedness and response. Here is how they work together.
